The Rodrigue Molyneaux Estate
Winery & Vineyard is owned and operated by Nancy & Garry Rodrigue.
Garry
is the principal winemaker and vintner. An emeritus professor at UC-Davis
in the Applied Sciences, Garry's background gives him the technical
skills needed to understand the chemistry of making good
wine.
He loves to peruse the shelves of the campus libraries for the
perfect book that will improve his wine.
But mostly, he likes to be in the vineyard tending the grapes, for he
believes that
good grapes are the key to good wine.
Garry practices reserve
farming techniques. This requires intensive monitoring of the watering and pruning
techniques, especially keeping the yield down to three tons or less
per acre. Although the yield is smaller, the grapes will have more intense fruit flavor.
Nancy and Garry think these techniques explain why their red wines are so robust, fruity and complex.
Garry & Nancy are
almost always in the winery to answer questions or to
just talk about their wine. They enjoy sharing their wine and invite
experts and novices alike to come by on the weekends.
